CHAPTER FOUR.
THE CONFESSION.
That new transfer student, Isabella, was just too clingy with Ryoma. It ticked me off. Yes, they’re like best friends and everything, but sheesh. Why do they have to be so close—too close, if you ask me, with each other?
I sighed as I hurriedly changed into my school uniform. It was morning and it was time for school again. Bummer. I thought to myself.
I arrived in school earlier than usual. No one was still around, so I sat down on my chair as I reached for my notebook and started doodling.
Ohayou.” A familiar voice greeted. It was cold and emotionless. I didn’t turn around to see who it was.
I know who it is—it was Ryoma.
“Ah.. ohayou gozaimasu Ryoma-kun.” I greeted back.
I noticed him lowering his head over to my desk, trying to get a better view of what I’m doodling. He was looking at the drawing and I was looking at
him. “That’s me, isn’t it?” He asked, pointing at my drawing.
I looked at my notebook. “Oh my.” I gasped. Guess what? My drawing was a chibi image of Ryoma with his racket. I feel so embarrassed.
“No! it’s not, I was just doing this without thinking and—“ stutter, stutter, stutter. Yes. You might say have a speech disorder or probably because of my affection towards Ryoma that I stutter like this so much.
“I see.”—was all he said. He went to his desk—w/c was infront of mine.
Silence~~
No one, except the two of us, are around and it was really quiet—the perfect opportunity to confess my love for him. I glanced at him. He was busy writing something on his notebook.
“Ryoma-kun.” I called out.
“”I…” I started playing with my fingers, slowly linking them together. “You know, I’ve been really…really…well, for a long time I’ve been seriously—“
Before I was able to finish my oh-so-supposed-to-be-perfect-but-she-came-in plan, Isabella came crashing down our doorsteps yelling Ryoma’s name.
“Ryoma~” She skipped merrily as she went to Ryoma’s desk. “What are you doing?” She asked cheerfully.
Great! You just ruined it. I was supposed to confess. Dammit.
Isabella noticed me sitting at before Ryoma.. “Oh, hey Sakuno-chan. Sorry, I didn’t see you there.” She gave me a beautiful smile.
“Uh.. Hey.” I smiled back.
They started talking again. It pissed me off. How could they be so close like that? Does Ryoma like her? She’s the only girl I’ve seen this close to him.
Classes were over: Sakuno and Tomoka were watching the regulars practice~ “Sakuno-chan, who is that girl?” Tomoka asked, referring to Isabella. She was obviously pissed. “Is she a friend of Ryoma’s?”
“I guess so.” I said weakly. Tomoka looked at me with pity.
“It’s okay.” I heard her say. “They’re just friends,
I think.”
After a while~ “Oi Sakuno, I’m going home first, okay? I have to baby-sit my brothers again. Ugh.” Tomoka rolled her eyes and turned to smile at me. “Watch Ryoma-sama for me, okay?” She winked.
I laughed.“ Okay. Ja ne, Tomoka.” I waved goodbye. I sighed as I went back to the classroom again, only to get my bag and—
“Ahahaha. That was a fun match, Ryoma.” I heard Isabella say as she went inside the classroom, followed by Ryoma.
“Yeah.” He coldly replied. “I’m looking forward to having a match with you again.” He smirked.
“Sure. As long as you beat me.” She laughed.
“I’ve beaten you for quite a lot of times now, you know. I should be the one saying that.” Ryoma informed her. Then I just heard them laughing their asses off.
“Oh hey, Sakuno-chan. You were here, I’m sorry we didn’t notice you. Right, Ryoma?” Finally! You guys just noticed me just now? Ouch.
“Ah.” Ryoma just nodded.
“We always seem to bump into each other a lot, ne Sakuno-chan?” Isabella smiled.
“Oh. Yes, I notice that too.” I said, smiling back. I glanced at Ryoma who was at her back, looking outside the window.
Not paying attention again, huh? Or you just probably don’t care.
“Well, I guess I have to go.” I exclaimed happily.
You guys enjoy your chat. I thought.
“Oi.” I heard Ryoma say.
Wait. Is he calling me? I can feel my heart go,
thump thump thump.
“N-nani?” I asked, not looking at his face. I don’t want him to seem my tomato red face. “W-what is it?”
“Wait for me.”
What did he just say? Wait for him? I didn’t get to say anything. I was too overjoyed that he has the courage to ask me to wait for him. This is very un-Ryoma. But it nearly made my heart stop.
“Anyway, I have to go now.” Isabella muttered. “My parents are waiting. You how they are, short-tempered.” She sighed. Ryoma patted her on the back. I felt a pang of jealousy. She turned towards me and said, “Goodbye Sakuno-chan.” She gave her smile again.
“Um. Ja ne.” I smiled back.
So she left us alone—me and Ryoma
alone.
“Hey, let’s go home now.” He said as he gently grabbed me by the arm. He didn’t even look at me, just holding my arm—rather my wrist—as we went straight outside the school. I blushed.
It was quiet and peaceful. We were walking together and it feels so good. No one of us was speaking. He was still holding my wrist, by the way and I was blushing endlessly.
“What was it you want to say to me?” Ryoma suddenly said. He stopped walking and he let go of my hand. No, don’t let go.
I remembered. I was about to confess to him.
Stupid me. “N-nothing.” I replied without even thinking. It was just too hard to speak casually to Ryoma.
He just gave me a nod and we started walking again. It bothered me.
Was he mad?
“Ryoma-kun,” I cried. He stopped walking, but he didn’t turn around to face me, he just stopped.
“Hm?”
“I just want you to know that…” I took a deep breath and cried, “I have always liked you, Ryoma-kun! Since the first time I met you.” I said it wothout stuttering, I swear.
I closed my eyes, waiting for his reply. The wind blew past me and it was silence that I could hear. He didn’t reply instead he said, tugging his cap down.
“Let’s go home. It’s getting dark.”
We were walking and I followed him. There was still no reply. I guess that’s just because he couldn’t handle confessions like these, wait, of course not. I bet a lot of girls have confessed to him before. So how did he handle all of them, maybe—
“I can’t answer just yet.”
I looked at him, for the second time, he didn’t even turn around. He was still walking, hisd cap tugged down. “Wakata.” I answered.
I could see my home now, it was time to bid goodbye. I frowned. “Ryoma-kun, can I ask something?”
“Nani?” This time, he stopped walking and turned around to face me.
“Do you like… Isabella?” He stared at me. I looked away. It was quiet. I turned to look at him and caught him looking back. He nodded and he looked away, blushed.
I nearly died. Did I just see him blush? He likes Isabella? What?!

CHAPTER THREE.
THE BOY WITH BLUE EYES.
I sat on the bench watching them, feeling my heart being crushed into tiny pieces.
I don’t need to watch this, I thought briskly so I staggered outside. I was near the school gate when the thunder roared and lightning lit the sky as if it’s taking a picture.
Good, I thought, it matches the mood I’m feeling right now.
As I ran toward the station, I felt drops of rain fall down my face.
At least it masked what I really feel, I reasoned. To myself as I got drenched in the rain.
Blinded by tears, I failed to see a boy walking towards me carrying an umbrella. I bumped into him and was about to fall, when he grabbed and held me steady. “Miss, are you okay? Why are you running in the rain?” concerned, the boy asked as he held his umbrella at my side so I was no longer drenched in the rain.
“I’m fine. Please, leave me alone.” I choked out as fresh tears threaten to fall.
“Hey, are you crying? Here, I have a handkerchief, you can use it.” he kindly offered as he starts to retrieve it from his pocket.
I quickly took out my handkerchief and exclaimed, “No, it’s fine, I have my own.”
“Then, at least share my umbrella.” he insisted. I stared at him but my thought was far away. Finally, his words reached me. I remembered Ryoma-kun and the umbrella incident. I shuddered and hastily run away in the process dropping my handkerchief behind.
As I reached home, I amazed myself with what happen earlier,
what happened to me? I asked myself confusedly. I slept with that thought.
The next morning, I lazily got up from bed. It’s time to go to school again. My mood didn’t change that much. As I was boarding the train, I noticed a boy waving at me. Despite myself, curiously I walked towards him.
“Miss, are you finally okay now?” inquired the boy as I neared him. I studied his face but failed to recognize him. He is a very handsome guy with dark blue eyes and hair. He has perfect features just like Ryoma-kun that I couldn’t help but admire him.
“I’m sorry, have we met before?” I asked.
The boy beamed at me, “My name is Takanari Ikeda, I’m the guy from yesterday, the one you bumped into in the rain.” explained Takanari as he retrieve my handkerchief from him pocket. After I recognized it, I gave him an apologetic smile
“Oh, it was you, I’m sorry…I was just in a bad mood yesterday, I’m Sakuno Ryuzaki. it’s nice to meet you, Ikeda-san.”
He leaned forward and said “I prefer if you call me taka-kun and I hope I can call you sakuno-chan, it would be my honor.” He added as he winked.
I smiled, he trying to lighten my mood I thought… “Sure, taka-kun.”
We chatted all through out the ride. I was having a good time until it was already my stop. “Uhmm, taka-kun, I’ll go ahead, it was nice talking with you.” I said, smiling.
He smiled and waved good bye. As I walked pass the school gate, I smiled, he made me forget about Ryoma-kun and Isabella. Now my mood is so much better.

CHAPTER TWO.
ARRIVAL OF THE AMERICAN GIRL.
The next day at school, “Hey, Ryuuzaki, Can I have a word with you?” Ryoma said as he approached me.
My heart skipped a beat as I looked up. “Sure, about what? Ryoma-kun”, I asked trying to act cool.
“I just want to thank you for yesterday…” unfortunately, he was cut off when a brunette girl suddenly hugged him from behind, “Ryoma-kun, I missed you a lot!!!!” the girl exclaimed. Both Ryoma-kun and I were shocked at first. Who is this girl and what is her relation to Ryoma-kun, I thought bitterly as I glanced at her while she continued to embrace Ryoma-kun.
However, Ryoma-kun stared at her as if he was trying to remember who the girl is. I saw as much to my dismay Ryoma-kun’s face lit up.
“Isabella, It’s nice to see you again; what are you doing here?” I looked at Ryoma-kun and the way he reacted to her made my stomach twitch and I shuddered, trying to hide the anguish that I’m sure my face is showing. I turned away as I realized that Ryoma-kun has totally forgotten about me.
I slowly made my way back while I kept telling myself that I shouldn’t worry about the girl. As classes resumed, I totally forgotten about her or so I thought.
That afternoon while in the tennis club practice, I was picking up scattered tennis balls on the court with Ryoma-kun. I decided that it was a good chance to talk to him. “uhmmm, Ryoma-kun, I was wondering… before we were interrupted, what were you going to say to me?” I carefully asked.
Ryoma-kun stopped picking and curiously looked at me. I got nervous and my heart started to beat faster as I looked away. “Sorry about that, I was caught up with talking with Isabella that I forgot about you; I wanted to thank you for yesterday when you let me share your umbrella.” Ryoma-kun said looking straight into my eyes.
I blushed and felt my face burning up; I said, “It’s okay, my umbrella was big enough for both of us.” Suddenly his teammate called out that their practice was about to start. Ryoma-kun muttered to me that he’ll talk to me later. I happily continued to pick when Isabella walked towards me, “hey, you’re the girl with Ryoma-kun earlier, Right?” Isabella curiously asked.
I tried my best to smile. “Yes, I’m Sakuno Ryuzaki, it’s nice to meet you”. I extended my hand towards her. Taking my hand she replied, “I’m Isabella, Ryoma-kun’s friend from America, can I help you pick up these balls?” she asked while looking around the court.
Even though, I would prefer that she leaves alone, I agreed. We both started picking up. After we have finished, Isabella suggested that we play tennis for awhile. I was hesitant at first but soon it was a good opportunity. As we played, I realized she was very good. Her stance, her drive, her service and volleys were perfect, no wonder Ryoma-kun used to play with her.
Suddenly we heard someone clapping, it was Ryoma-kun! “Your still good in playing Isabella.” Said Ryoma-kun as his approached the court. “Is your practice over?” returned Isabella smiling.
“Yup, wanna play with me?” challenged Ryoma-kun, smiling.
“Sure, bring it on.” Replied Isabella boastfully.
Ryoma-kun laughs and turned towards me. “Ryuuzaki, Can I play for you?” He asked.
I tried my best to hide my hurt feelings and forced a smile. “Okay, I’ll just sit at the bench.” As I stepped out. I looked back at them, happily playing. Suddenly I felt a pang of jealously and surge of possessiveness for Ryoma-kun.

CHAPTER ONE.
MY BRIGHT YELLOW UMBRELLA.
The rain poured ponderously that Friday afternoon. Classes were over and I was in the library, studying for my History exam. I stood up and glanced outside the window. I saw the tennis courts, hoping to see
someone, but it was rather empty and no one was playing. I thought,
of course no one would play at such rain besides, exams are up next week. I pulled the chair and sat down, I have to study and pass, I thought to myself. I started studying again, this time with more enthusiasm. The taciturnity of the room and the slow ticking of the clock—I can loudly hear them all. It was eerie.
Tick. Silence. Tick. Silence. Tick.
It went on for hours; it was then when I checked my wrist watch, “7 pm. Shoot. I have to go.” I muttered under my breath. I hurriedly returned the reference books back to their shelves and placed my history book back in my bag. I went outside and started running downstairs.
It was dark and it was still raining—only way heavier. I reached for my umbrella in my bad. It was bright yellow. I stretched it out and before I was able to walk out into the open, I noticed a familiar figure standing meters away from me. It was him.
Ryoma Echizen.
His black-green hair, drenched from the continuous pouring of the rain and those hazel eyes that sparkled beautifully under the dark rainy night, nearly gave me a nosebleed. He was looking nowhere, just idly standing there in the middle of the path walk.
I looked at him with admirable eyes. He was just so ethereal—with the way standing there, under the rain, looking gorgeously beautiful.
His tennis clothes were wet, too. Through his wet clothes, you can see his thin but muscular body. Seeing this—I blushed. I didn’t notice, but he was holding his red Yonex racket,
tightly.
What is he doing there? I wondered.
He probably practiced tennis again. Tennis. The only thing he’s so fond of. His one and only love.
Pfft. Right. Somehow, I’m kind of jealous. But this is better; since he’s so dedicated to tennis, he never has time for girls—which is good, since I still have a chance. I mean who would get jealous over a sport? That would only be me.
I turned to look at him again. I smiled as I whispered to myself, “Ganbatte, Sakuno.” I slowly went to his direction, tightly holding the umbrella.
I stood beside him, my heart was about to stop when I offered him my umbrella and said, “Here, Ryoma-kun. Let’s share my umbrella. You’ll get sick if you stay in the rain for too long.” There was no clumsiness or stuttering in my voice. It was straight and firm, yet gentle.
He turned his head around and stared at me. He must’ve been shocked that I wasn’t stuttering right now. His big eyes were fixed on mine. I could feel my heart beating so fast.
“Ryuzaki.” I heard him say. His breath tickled my flushed face. It was embarrassing, but I was enjoying every moment of it.
My eyes were still locked with his. He lowered his head so I couldn’t see his eyes. I was about to say sorry, when he gently rested his head on my shoulders. Despite the fact that he has been in the rain for a while, I could smell the sweet smell of strawberry in his hair. He smelled so heavenly good. I blushed really hard. My face was so red.
“R-Ryoma-kun. Ano…” there it goes, I’m stuttering again. “Doushite? Eto…” But before I was able to finish my unfinished words, he said,
“Let me rest for a while. I’m tired.”
I didn’t say anything. We stood there under my umbrella,—his head rested on my shoulders, his nose buried in my neck, his eyes were closed like a sleeping baby and his left arm was wrapped around me—I nearly fainted.
It was then after several minutes that he stood up and looked at me again. He wasn’t looking snobbishly like usual, he was looking at me with calm and serene eyes.
“Sankyuu.” He whispered and then he smiled.
Wait! Did he just smile at me? Oh my gosh. My face is too red. Only Ryoma could make my heart thump this way.
What happened next, you ask? Well, we walked home together, under my bright, yellow umbrella.
